Beginning in April, Stratford’s 2010 season will have selected showings of As You Like It, Dangerous Liaisons, Do Not Go Gentle, Evita, For the Pleasure of Seeing Her Again, Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris, King of Thieves, Kiss Me, Kate, Peter Pan, The Tempest, The Two Gentleman of Verona and A Winter’s Tale. The Tempest by William Shakespeare will play from June 11 to September 12, featuring acclaimed Canadian actor Christopher Plummer as Prospero. Plummer is joined by James Blendick (Gonzalo), Bruce Dow (Trinculo), Peter Hutt (Alonzo), Dion Johnstone (Caliban) and Trish Lindstom (Miranda) in Shakespeare’s culminating masterpiece, which pits the desire for revenge against the demands of love and asks if man is capable of creating a brave new world. The Two Gentlemen of Verona by Shakespeare will play from July 30 to September 19, featuring Dion Johnstone as Valentine, Gareth Potter as Proteus, Claire Lautier as Silvia and Sophia Walker as Julia in a love … rectangle, which teaches us a thing or two about loyalty and love. A Winter’s Tale by Shakespeare will play from May 27 to September 25, featuring Ben Carlson as King Leontes and is considered one of Shakespeare’s “problem plays” because of the psychological drama intensified in the first three acts coupled with comedic endings in the last two acts. King Leontes, obsessed by suspicions of infidelity, puts his pregnant wife, Hermione, on trial for her life – coming to his senses only when his actions have cost him both wife and children. Don’t miss Stratford’s annual fundraiser either. The 26th Annual Stratford Express departs union station at 4 p.m. on June 5, 2010 with the gala reception at 3 p.m. in Union Station.
